Light

No, we have not fallen off the edge of the world. We are still here. Busy as usual. You would think that once we put the kids in school we would have more time, but it seems as if life has sped up. Those 35 free hours a week go fast.

It seems that when I am quiet on the blog front I am usually thinking about a lot of things. Too many to write about. And I am not talented enough to put into words those thoughts. Who knew I was thinking at all?

So, some thoughts for the day.

We had an excellent lesson from God's Word today at Church. Pastor is preaching through the New Testament. He gives a word for the day and today's word was light. Christ is the Light and we are to be reflecting His light to others.

Perfect timing for me to hear this. I had just been on a field trip with Susy's class on Friday. And I was trying to be that light. The difference between Christian schools and homeschool and public schools is great. At a Christian school you have that common bond of Christ that brings you together. Homeschoolers basically get to pick who their kids hang out with. But public school is a whole 'nother game. Every kind of kid is there. Rich, poor, goofy, cute, clean, dirty, tired and hyper. There were 40 of these kids on the 40 minute bus ride to the apple orchard. (That's right. We were outside in the 30 degree weather picking apples. The refrigerator that holds all the apples felt warm.)

There were also about 10 parents and 2 teachers on the bus. Two of the parents just didn't show up that day. Wimps.

As I sat there on the bus inhaling fumes and taking in all the chaos, a sadness came over me. I thought about the parents across the aisle who were talking at each other about their kids. Neither of them was really listening to each other. I thought about the kids who were just wearing sweatshirts and were freezing cold. What were their moms and dads thinking? I thought about the little boy that fell asleep on the way home. He was tired to start the day. I wondered what time he went to bed.

And most importantly I thought about how many of them didn't know about the Hope that I have in Jesus. And how God can use me, who can barely put two words together when I first meet people, to be a light in their dark world.

Go light Your World By Chris Rice

There is a candle in every soul
Some brightly burning, some dark and cold
There is a spirit who brings a fire
Egnites a candle, and makes his home

Carry your candle
Run to the darkness
Seek out the helpless, confused and torn
And hold out your candle
For all to see it
Take your candle and go light your world
Take your candle and go light your world

Frustrated brother, see how he's tried to
Light his own candle some other way
See now your sister she's been robbed and lied to
Still holds a candle, without a flame

Carry your candle
Run to the darkness
Seek out the lonely, the tired and worn
And hold out your candle
For all to see it
Take your candle and go light your world
Take your candle and go light your world

Cuz we are a family
Whose hearts are blazing
So lets raise our candles and light up the sky
Prayin to our Father in the name of Jesus
Make us a beacon in darkest times

Carry your candle
Run to the darkness
Seek out the hopeless, deceived and
Hold out your candle
For all to see it
Take your candle and go light your world
Take your candle and go light your world

Hold our your candle
For all to see it
Take out your candle and go light your world
Take your candle and go light your world
Take your candle and go light your world

Glad your back...and glad for what you have been thinking about. It is good that you let us know your thoughts. Now we can learn from them. Great stuff! He had you on the bus to be the candle and your children can be used in a huge way there. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing. I miss Ken's teaching. And since we left, they've stopped putting the sermons on the web. What's up with that?! Can you get on someone over there for me?

For someone who said you can't write out your thoughts, you certainly moved me with your words. Your observations on the bus came through as though I were sitting right there...and I was reminded to look around me with my heart, not just my eyes! I loved being at your church on Sunday, and am thrilled my friend is excited about going there!

Suz,
I think I know a guy who can help you out :0. Larry put Ken on a podcast so you can download it to your ipod.

Carol and Brenda, Thanks for the encouraging words. I love reading both of your blogs as well.
