Sandwiches again?

Calling all moms out there in Blogland with lunch bag experience. I may be creative, but it seems I'm not with lunches for the kiddies. After two weeks of sandwiches, usually PB and J, the girls are bored. They want something different. Any ideas out there?

Julie,

My kids are super picky so we have come up with a few ideas that work for them. Collin loves cold pizza and he also loves little pizza muffins. We make homemade dough and shape them in the mini muffin pan put sauce and cheese and bake 400 for 10 min. He loves to eat it cold. Hope loves ham rolled up in her lunch.

Tina, thanks for the great idea. I think two of the girls will eat those little pizzas. I remember Claudia packing something like for David when I taught him in third grade.
Carrie, our hot lunches are $2.50 a piece. We haven't bought yet, but maybe for a treat someday.

Hey Julie...I now am enjoying the fact that we are home eating and I dont have to pack . we can toss leftovers in the microwave...they are loving that. BUT we have the same kinda problem..some of our standby favorites are not available to us and Kayleen is DYING because there is NO grape jelly. I have found some kind of thing similiar to strawberry and blueberry jelly but no plain old grape. kayleen only likes grape but I can slide the other stuff past everyone else if I pile on the Peanut butter. I dont mind most any kid of jelly but poor kayleen is not adjusting to Peanut butter with no jelly. :-)

My girls love turkey just rolled up with a slice of cheese on the side without the bread. Got a thermos? That adds to the mix. We can usually do ramen noodles in the morning right before they walk out the door and a good thermos will keep it hot (or at least warm enough) till lunch. :-)

Not that Lauren goes to school, but if we're having a luncheon at Bible study, I make a grilled cheese the night before, throw it in the microwave for 45 seconds in the morning and wrap it in aluminum foil. It stays pretty warm until lunch. I've also done the occasional flour torilla and cheese. However, I do know that cheese can get expensive, but it's a good once-in-a-while thing.

One of the bonuses of homescholling is macaroni and cheese. At 29 cents a box you just couldn't beat it.

I guess I will have to break down and buy a thermos. They were ten bucks a piece at Tarjay. I will have to shop somewhere else!

And I'll pick up some turkey and cheese.

jewels-
i saw some pretty exciting things walking the rounds at lunch. some kids brought cereal in a thermos and a little jug of milk. soup was a huge thermos fave. i can't believe those things were ten bucks though! and at tarjay!! you could make your own lunchable...throw some crackers, cheese and lunchmeat in a baggie. anything on a tortilla magically tastes different. :) some kids brought chicken nuggets--obviously not hot but they still loved it. and one of my childhood faves (though i can't stand it now) vienna sausages. classic. what a weirdo i was.

SHHHHH don't mention macaroni and cheese here. Kayleen lives on that at home, but here cheese is few and far between to find and super expensive. Don't even suggest Kraft...they haven't done asia marketing yet. Maybe we should write them and beg for kayleens sake. She was just asking last night if there was any way we could make it here. :( Poor kayleen....she actually has tried all sorts of odd things here though and does not hesitate at the restaurants to try. I love that.

Man...Christina has that advantage of seeing all those ideas..someone needs to make a blog on it for all the school moms. :) BTW, did I tell you we miss cereal too? :( :( (that is hals sadness)

Hi Julie,

We do the soup in a thermos thing sometimes. I also have my boys make their own lunches most days. I figure they are old enough (11 and 9) and then really appreciate it when I do it too. We have sandwich choices too and cut up meat and crackers, raw veggies. PBJ does get old. They can buy at school every now and then.

Your family is lovely. I followed a link off Scott D's blog. I am his cousin Heather. I remember you from the IC days.

Take care. Happy lunching
